Most homeowners in Waimea & Hawaii will agree: Nothing's more important than ensuring the health and safety of ourselves and our families. We eat healthier and make regular visits to the doctor, but what about the environment in which we live? Many people don’t realize that their homes are characterized by poor indoor air quality, as the problem is not always obvious.

If you have a dedicated ventilation system already and aren't sure how to operate it, where to set it, whether the filters need cleaning, or if it's working at all, I can help.  I will:

  • Measure the airflows
  • Inspect the unit
  • Clean it
  • Replace the filters if necessary
  • Evaluate the most recent ventilation standards and suggest an airflow setting

Have you been feeling tired or sniffly lately? Does your home have a musty smell to it? You may have an indoor air quality (IAQ) issue on your hands, and the sooner you can act on it, the better.

Common Sources of Poor Indoor Air Quality

There are a number of ways that poor indoor air quality can manifest itself. Many people associate bad indoor air quality with dirty homes, but this is not usually the case. More often than not, the problem can stem from poorly functioning heating and cooling systems, dirty ductwork or mold and moisture that has infiltrated the home—all very common issues faced by Waimea homeowners.

Another common source of poor IAQ is a lack of proper air sealing. Tiny cracks and gaps throughout the home allow outside air to enter into living spaces, and for those who live in areas where pollution (like VOG) is present, this can create a real problem.

Signs of Poor Indoor Air Quality

Indoor air quality issues don’t always present themselves. Carbon monoxide, for example, is odorless and colorless, making it extremely dangerous and hard to pinpoint without a CO detector. Other indoor air qualities issues might along with warning signs, however:

  • Musty, Foul Odors

  • Visible Mold and Moisture

  • Headaches

  • Stuffy Nose

  • Sneezing

  • Coughing

  • Dizziness

Many of the symptoms associated with indoor air quality issues tend to be played off as mere allergies by homeowners and their family members, which can be dangerous if there is an actual problem occurring.
